The SANTOS de CARTIER: a design icon that has become Jake Gyllenhaal’s watch of choice

CARTIER being not the only pioneering subsidiary of RICHEMONT in watchmaking, CARTIER had professional been linked to other now subsidiaries of RICHEMONT prior to it’s establishment in 1988: A year prior to the creation and inception of the legendary SANTOS de CARTIER in 1904, the house of CARTIER had committed to a fifteen-year contract in which was stipulated that all movements of Edmond JEAGER would be exclusive to CARTIER. Said movements were produced by LECOULTRE & CIE in the Swiss village of Le Sentier, making the SANTOS de CARTIER one of the first piece-de-resistance’s of Swiss watchmaking.

The SANTOS de CARTIER, instantly recognizable by it’s square shape with eight visible screws, those visible screws becoming emblematic of CARTIER and its watchmaking, stands for a timepiece that defied time both in terms of performance and innovation.

The SANTOS de CARTIER, being equipped with the 1847 MC automatic calibre, is water resistance to 100 meters, chronometrically precise in the highest order and protected from everyday effects of magnetism up to 1’500 Gauss.

Moving with times, the SANTOS de CARTIER stands for change and adaptability. Available in steel, gold, calf or alligator skin, all versions of the strap are interchangeable and offer variability as well as spontaneity.

As an ambassador for CARTIER’s watchmaking, Jake Gyllenhaal shares CARTIER’s vision of time and its quality. Those values, both promoted by Gyllenhaal in his artistic endeavours, such as the SANTOS de CARTIER film as well as Sølve Sundsbø’s Time Project, which explores CARTIER’s relationship with time in twelve chapters.
