FENDI’s Croissant: An Icon Reimagined
Some icons never really leave. They simply wait for the right moment to return. For Cruise 2027, FENDI revisits the Croissant bag, first introduced on the Spring/Summer 1999–2000 runway under Karl Lagerfeld, and reimagined today by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Conceived as an extension of the iconic Baguette, the Croissant established its own identity through a distinctive crescent silhouette, a relaxed under-the-arm attitude and a playful sense of proportion. Like its namesake, a familiar staple of the Parisian boulangerie, it carries a certain universality: something that transcends seasons and trends without losing its appeal.
The return brings a new spectrum of interpretations, from black crackled leather and animal-print fabric to silver paillettes and the signature FF Zucca jacquard. Bold animalier patterns, fringed details and updated hardware introduce a contemporary dimension, while the adjustable strap and recognisable FF flap closure preserve the bag’s original character.
Its renewed presence in the public eye was already evident at FENDI’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in Milan, where Rachel Zegler carried a black-and-brown Croissant to the front row. A reminder that the enduring appeal of an accessory lies not only in its design, but in its ability to move effortlessly between generations.
From the Baguette to the Croissant, FENDI understands that reinvention does not always require a new beginning. Sometimes, it means returning to an idea that was right all along, allowing it to evolve while remaining unmistakably itself.
